Data-Over-Audio Company, LISNR®, Becomes a Member of the Industrial Internet Consortium
Cincinnati, OH (February 26, 2018) – LISNR®, the leading global provider of data-over-audio, announced today that they have joined the Industrial Internet Consortium® (IIC™), the world’s leading organization transforming business and society by accelerating the adoption of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). LISNR brings integrated device connectivity expertise to the IIC that will help the consortium and its members integrate new technologies that enable the IIoT.
Data-over-sound will become an integral part of the IoT industries framework. As part of its participation in the consortium, LISNR® aims to define best practices and processes and to help solve major challenges in the industry. As a small company and emerging technology, LISNR® will play a major role in the disruption IoT has on existing markets.
LISNR® is an advanced, near-ultrasonic, ultra-low power data transmission technology that enables fast, reliable, and secure communication between devices that have a speaker and/or microphone. Acting as a local proxy for data transmission, their technology is removing the need for complex, expensive, and power-consuming RF or QR code technologies. This technology works seamlessly across physical and digital spaces more effectively.
LISNR® technology enables secure local device identification and data transmission to another device. This data transmission can be used to initiate secondary actions such as authentication for access, payment, identification, or provide connectivity improvements in pairing, syncing, or linking.
How LISNR® Works
LISNR® utilizes sound waves and software to transmit customizable streams of data. These high-frequency sound waves can transmit data using a speaker to and between any smart devices with a microphone. A device with the LISNR® SDK installed will recognize the presence of a LISNR® audio signal when it comes into range. Once a signal is heard, the SDK demodulates the audio for information and performs the specified function on the device based on the data.
LISNR® technology is revolutionizing how devices connect and communicate in any environment, especially when traditional forms of connectivity are unreliable.
Dr. Richard Soley, Executive Director, Industrial Internet Consortium, said, “In a large IIoT system, IoT devices are often built by many different vendors, which can make interoperability challenging. This is why it is so important for us to share our testbed results with standards organizations. We are looking forward having LISNR as a member of the IIC to share its knowledge and experience in data-over-sound and device connectivity technologies with our members.”
LISNR® is recognized as the leading, global provider of data-over-audio technology. LISNR®’s proprietary near-ultrasonic protocol is being used across the connected world to power over 100 million devices and counting.
Founded in 2012, LISNR®’s near-ultrasonic protocol sends data-over-sound to enable proximity engagement, seamless, and secure methods of authentication, and device-to-device data transmission for connectivity and automation.
